The Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS) is the most comprehensive and authoritative scripture of Vedic astrology. Authored by Maharishi Parashara (father of Sage Veda Vyasa), it contains 97–100 chapters covering every aspect of natal astrology — from the creation of the cosmos to detailed prediction techniques. Every other system of Vedic astrology, including BSP and BNN, is built upon the foundation that BPHS establishes.

Vimshottari Dasha System

The Vimshottari Dasha is BPHS's primary timing system. It divides life into planetary periods totalling 120 years, determined by the Moon's Nakshatra at birth. This tells you WHEN a planet's influences will manifest.

How to Find Your Current Dasha

1. Find the Moon's Nakshatra in your birth chart (use the Planets table)
2. Each Nakshatra has a ruling planet — that planet's Dasha starts at birth
3. Calculate elapsed portion based on Moon's position within the Nakshatra
4. Successive Dashas follow the sequence: Sun→Moon→Mars→Rahu→Jupiter→Saturn→Mercury→Ketu→Venus
5. Within each Mahadasha, 9 Antardashas (sub-periods) operate in the same sequence

How to Read a Birth Chart (BPHS Method)

1. Identify the Lagna (Ascendant) — This is your 1st house. Count remaining houses counter-clockwise in North Indian style or clockwise in South Indian style.
2. Note the Lagna Lord — Where is the ruler of the 1st house placed? Its house placement, strength, and aspects shape the entire chart reading.
3. Assess planetary strength (Shadbala) — Is each planet exalted, in own sign, friend's sign, or debilitated? Exalted/own sign = strong; debilitated = weak results.
4. Identify house lords and their positions — Lord of 7th in 4th means marriage connects to home/mother. Lord of 10th in 1st gives self-made career.
5. Check for Yogas — Look for Raj Yogas, Dhana Yogas, or challenging combinations.
6. Apply the Dasha — Check the current Mahadasha and Antardasha to time when planetary results will manifest.
7. Verify with transits — Current positions of slow planets (Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu/Ketu) over natal planets trigger events.

Bhrigu Saral Paddhati (BSP) — meaning "Bhrigu's Easy Methodology" — is a powerful predictive system based on the teachings of Sage Bhrigu. It was researched and compiled by modern astrologers (notably through Saptarishis Astrology magazine) and operates on a remarkable principle: each year of a person's life corresponds to one house in the birth chart, cycling every 12 years.

How to Apply BSP in Practice

1. Draw the D1 (Rashi) chart — BSP primarily uses the natal Rashi chart only
2. Calculate the year-house: Age ÷ 12 → remainder = active house
3. Examine that house: Planets in it, sign ruling it, aspects on it, house lord's position
4. Apply Saturn's rule: Find the 4th from Saturn — note if the age-house aligns with it
5. Apply Jupiter's rule: Find the 5th and 10th from Jupiter — check alignment
6. Check age-specific rules: Is the native at 16, 24, 28, 30, 32, 36, 48? Apply the specific planet rule
7. Confirm with transit: Check where Saturn and Jupiter currently transit — do they aspect the active house?
8. State the prediction: Combine the house's natural significations + planets involved + the BSP rule triggered

Bhrigu Nandi Nadi (BNN) is a revolutionary predictive system that combines the wisdom of Sage Bhrigu with the Nadi tradition of South India (decoded by legendary astrologer Prof. R.G. Rao). Its most remarkable feature: accurate predictions WITHOUT using the Dasha system. Instead, it reads the birth chart as a narrative — planets tell a story through their natural significations, house placements, and transit activations.

How to Apply BNN in Practice

1. Set up the D1 chart — Only the Rashi chart is needed. No Lagna significance.
2. Choose the primary karaka — Based on what you want to predict and the native's gender (Jupiter for males, Venus for females as self karaka)
3. Find planets in trine from the karaka (1-5-9) — These are automatic allies and confirmers
4. Identify life-changing combinations — Check for Saturn+Mars, Jupiter+Venus, Jupiter+Saturn etc. (Rule 6)
5. Check planet strengths — Are the relevant planets in strong or weak signs?
6. Check retrograde planets — Do they extend influence backward to the 12th from themselves?
7. Overlay the current transit chart — Where are Jupiter and Saturn transiting? Do they aspect the natal combination?
8. Confirm the event — If transit planet aspects the natal combination AND the karaka connects to event planet → event fires now

Complete Chart Reading Workflow

1. Generate the D1 chart using the native's birth details. Note Lagna, planets in each house, and Moon's Nakshatra.
2. BPHS Layer: Identify Lagna lord, note exalted/debilitated planets, spot any major Yogas, calculate current Vimshottari Dasha period.
3. BSP Layer: Calculate age-house (Age ÷ 12, take remainder). Apply Saturn's 4th house rule, Jupiter's 5th/10th rule, and any age-specific rules (BSP Rules 1–15).
4. BNN Layer: Choose primary karaka. Find trine connections. Identify life-changing combinations. Check transit chart for activation.
5. Synthesise: Where all three systems agree → highest confidence prediction. State the event, its nature, and approximate timing.
6. Suggest remedies (BPHS): Planetary gemstones, mantras, charity days aligned to the challenging planets.
