Lord Satyanarayan is the form of Lord Vishnu who blesses his devotees swiftly when approached with sincere devotion. The Satyanarayan Katha involves the reading of five chapters from the Skanda Purana narrating miraculous stories of the Lord granting his devotees wishes. The puja includes Kalash Sthapana, Panchamrit Abhishek of Vishnu, recitation of all five chapters with explanation, Aarti and Prasad distribution (panchamrit and sheera prasad). This puja is traditionally performed at every major life event — marriage, new job, childbirth, housewarming and birthday.
